What does the Bible say about demons KJV

The Bible provides significant insight into demons, also called devils or unclean spirits in the King James Version (KJV). These spiritual beings are fallen angels who rebelled against God and now serve Satan in opposition to God’s will. Scripture describes their origin, characteristics, influence on humanity, and ultimate fate.

1. The Origin of Demons

Demons were created as angels, but they chose to rebel against God, following Satan.

● Revelation 12:7-9 – "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

● Jude 1:6 – "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."

These verses suggest that demons are fallen angels who chose to follow Satan and now operate in the spiritual realm, influencing people and events.

2. The Nature and Characteristics of Demons

The Bible portrays demons as evil, deceptive, and destructive spirits. They seek to cause harm, promote sin, and oppose God’s kingdom.

● John 10:10 – "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly."

● Ephesians 6:12 – "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Demons work under Satan’s command, influencing individuals, nations, and even religious institutions. Their goal is to deceive and draw people away from God’s truth.

3. Demonic Possession and Influence

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus encounters many people who are possessed by demons. These unclean spirits can inhabit individuals, causing physical, mental, and spiritual distress.

● Mark 5:2-5 – "And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones."

This example shows how demons can exert control over a person, causing extreme distress and supernatural strength. However, demons are powerless against Jesus.

4. Jesus’ Power Over Demons

Jesus demonstrated complete authority over demons, casting them out with a word and freeing those under their control.

● Luke 4:35 – "And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not."

● Matthew 8:16 – "When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick."

Jesus’ power over demons proves that they cannot resist His authority. Even the demons recognized Him as the Son of God and feared His judgment. Matthew 8:29 – "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"

5. The Deception of Demons

Demons work through false teachings, idolatry, and deception to turn people away from God.

● 1 Timothy 4:1 – "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."

● 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 – "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness."

False religions, occult practices, and even distorted versions of Christianity can be influenced by demons to deceive and mislead people.

6. The Fate of Demons

Demons know they will ultimately be judged and cast into the lake of fire.

● Revelation 20:10 – "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever."

● Matthew 25:41 – "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels."

Although demons are active in the world today, their defeat is certain. Their destiny is eternal punishment, and they cannot stand against the power of God.

7. How Christians Can Resist Demons

The Bible gives believers tools to resist demonic influence.

● James 4:7 – "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

● Ephesians 6:11 – "Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

Christians must rely on prayer, faith, and God’s Word to stand firm against demonic deception and attacks.

The Bible teaches that demons are fallen angels who serve Satan, deceive people, and seek to oppose God’s kingdom. They have the power to influence and possess individuals, but they are ultimately subject to Jesus Christ, who has authority over them. Believers are called to resist demonic forces through faith, prayer, and obedience to God’s Word. One day, demons will face their final judgment in the lake of fire, ensuring that their reign of deception and destruction will come to an end.
