Dangers of not being on the Lord's side

The Bible makes it clear that choosing to reject God or remain indifferent toward Him comes with serious consequences. The world often promotes self-reliance, human wisdom, and pleasure-seeking as the paths to success and happiness. However, the Bible warns that a life apart from God is full of danger, both in this life and eternity.

Below are some of the major dangers of not being on the Lord’s side, supported by biblical insights.

1. Eternal Separation from God

One of the greatest dangers of rejecting God is eternal separation from Him. The Bible teaches that heaven is a place of joy, peace, and the presence of God, while hell is a place of sorrow and separation from God’s love.

● Matthew 25:41 – "Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’"

● 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 – "He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might."

Hell was not originally created for humans but for the devil and his fallen angels. However, those who reject Christ ultimately choose separation from God and will share in this judgment.

2. Lack of Divine Protection

God promises to protect those who belong to Him. But those who refuse His covering are exposed to the dangers of life without divine guidance.

● Psalm 91:1-2 – "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’"

Without God’s protection, people are vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks, deception, and destruction. They may also lack the discernment to avoid dangerous situations.

● Ephesians 6:11-12 – "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

The spiritual battle is real, and those who are not on the Lord’s side are unprotected in the fight against the forces of darkness.

3. No True Peace or Fulfillment

Many people chase money, fame, and power, thinking these things will bring happiness. However, true peace and fulfillment come only from a relationship with God.

● John 14:27 – "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

● Philippians 4:7 – "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Without God, people may experience temporary happiness, but they will always feel a void that nothing else can fill. Many successful and wealthy individuals have confessed that, despite having everything the world offers, they still feel empty. This is because humans were created to be in a relationship with God, and without Him, there is a spiritual emptiness.

4. Being Controlled by Sin and the Enemy

When people are not on God’s side, they become enslaved by sin and, ultimately, by the devil.

● Romans 6:16 – "Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?"

● John 8:44 – "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him."

Sin controls and destroys people’s lives. Addiction, broken relationships, and destructive behaviors are all consequences of being apart from God. The enemy’s goal is to keep people in bondage, leading them away from God and into destruction.

5. Facing God’s Judgment

The Bible warns that those who reject Christ will face divine judgment.

● Hebrews 9:27 – "Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment."

● Revelation 20:11-15 – "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."

God is merciful and loving, but He is also just. He gives every person a chance to repent, but those who refuse will face the consequences of their choices.

6. An Unstable Life and Future

A life without God lacks a solid foundation. Jesus illustrated this truth with the parable of the wise and foolish builders:

● Matthew 7:24-27 – "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock... But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand."

Those who reject God build their lives on temporary things, which can collapse in times of trouble. Without God’s guidance, people make unwise decisions, leading to regret, failure, and destruction.

7. Missing Out on God’s Blessings and Purpose

God has a unique plan for every person, but those who turn away from Him miss out on the blessings He has in store.

● Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

● Ephesians 2:10 – "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

God has designed each person with a purpose. When people ignore His calling, they wander through life without true direction, often feeling lost and unfulfilled.

How to Be on the Lord’s Side

If you realize that you are not fully on God’s side, there is hope. The Bible offers the way to salvation:

1. Repent of Your Sins – Acknowledge that you have sinned and turn away from sin. (Acts 3:19)

2. Believe in Jesus Christ – Accept that Jesus died for your sins and rose again. (Romans 10:9-10)

3. Surrender Your Life to God – Commit to following Christ and obeying His Word. (Luke 9:23)

4. Stay Close to God – Pray, read the Bible, and join a community of believers. (Hebrews 10:25)

Not being on the Lord’s side comes with many dangers, including eternal separation from God, lack of divine protection, spiritual emptiness, bondage to sin, and God’s judgment. However, God’s love and mercy are always available to those who seek Him.⁰

Choosing to follow Christ is the best decision anyone can make. It leads to true peace, purpose, and eternal life. If you have not yet given your life to Christ, now is the time. God is calling you to be on His side, where there is safety, joy, and everlasting love. Will you answer His call today?
